![]() ![]() These creatures swiftly annihilated the rest of the Ishimura’s massive crew. The Marker brought the dead back to life as twisted horrors known as necromorphs. After bringing aboard an ancient artifact known as the Red Marker the crew began to go insane. Unbeknownst to you and your fellows – Commander Zach Hammond and computer whiz Kendra Daniels – the planet-cracker mining star-ship USG Ishimura has suffered a cataclysmic fate. In Dead Space you play as Isaac Clarke, a ship systems engineer in the year 2508, on a routine call out to a distressed mining ship. Being at half health and not being able to afford the basic things to power you back up all while knowing there’s rooms full of shambling corpses just waiting to rip you apart is the true horror of Dead Space, jump scares be damned! I might be able to find some health packs down the dark, dangerous corridors but not without great difficulty or death. Dead Space can throw all the necromorphs, asteroids and hallucinations it wants at me the real horror is in knowing that once I reach a safe room I won’t be able to afford the medical aid I so desperately need. Overall I would have to say that Dead Space is probably the better game, but both games are equally effective in the scare department. The real horror these days seems to be not being able to afford the basics. Alien manages to shock you with more clever traps than just things popping out of vents. And when the Alien showed up and I was far away from the next checkpoint, I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my pants. Alien Isolation had a simple story that cleverly connected to the first movie. The story was stupid though (as soon as it introduced the markers, it lost me). ![]() There were different things to do other than just opening doors. Dead Space also managed to be scary without being helpless as a player and the gameplay was a lot of fun. In Dead Space I really felt like "♥♥♥♥, I am alone in this." and the tension was pretty thick throughout the game. I am a huge Alien fan so it is hard for me to be objective, but I think Dead Space had a much more "isolated" feel than Alien. Which game is the best and scariest? Dead Space comes to mind and I am not sure which game I like better. So this is the Sci-fi (survival) Horror sub-genre. ![]()
